Our company has been recognized as one of the world's best cartridge manufacturers for 65 years. Our soda, cream and equipment products are created with consistency, expertise and reliability, built on experience, innovation and skill. Below we provide a glimpse into some of our important milestones.
Our factory is located in Répcelak, where one of the largest natural carbon dioxide processing plants in Europe was built.
Since 1960, we have been filling gas into cartridges, to the delight of soda siphon lovers, and for a long time, Hungary was at the top of per capita cartridge consumption in the world. The Company was privatized by Linde during the regime change, but the cartridge business was sold to Hungarian investors in 2001.
Owner Zoltán Érdi was still a college student when he joined Liss and gradually climbed the ladder to the top. Since then, he has not only saved the company from bankruptcy during the 2008 global economic crisis, but also made it successful internationally.
So much so that without their cartridges, the cappuccino in New York would be different, and today they sell more cartridges in the United States than in the whole of Europe.
Our company’s former CO2 cartridge factory, which started in the early 1960s, would hardly be recognizable to anyone who visited the old, retro plant. Today, production takes place in five large halls with professional, modern production lines, while domestic cartridge sales represent only a symbolic fraction of the over HUF 15 billion in annual revenue. Because cartridges filled with carbon dioxide (CO2), dinitrogen oxide (N2O), or other special gases, such as argon, are used not only in vintage siphons.
There is a large market in healthcare, where medical-grade gases need to be „packaged” in cartridges, but the construction industry also uses CO2 for smaller nail guns, staple guns, and drain cleaners. Then there are the self-inflating, CO2-operated life jackets and smaller, metal cartridge fire extinguishers.
After that, there are CO2-powered air guns, followed by the molecular gastronomy trend in which professional-grade whipped cream is made using serious siphons with dinitrogen oxide, replacing the simpler store-bought cream chargers. And let’s not forget the popular wine preservation method of enriching the wine with noble gases, such as argon.
First in 2014, then in 2016, 2017, and 2021, four new production hall buildings were completed.
The food industry provided the initial impetus for this continuous growth, with the expansion of the aforementioned coffee chains, where there was a surge in demand for large foam machines from supplier partners. However, food industry projects required the separate organization of production for other types of cartridges (airguns, firefighting, life jackets).
This was particularly necessary because, after 2017, there was an increasing need to continuously renew quality compared to cheap Asian competition. The company is able to deliver to Europe much faster and with a diverse range of products.
